I'm currently reading through The Well-Grounded Rubyist. "The Well Grounded Rubyist" is a new and rewritten version of the popular Ruby for Rails. Black moves beyond Rails and presents a broader view of Ruby. Today InfoQ publishes a review and excerpts Chapter 15. David Black's 'The Well -Grounded Rubyist' has a nice section on Enumerators. It covers Rails, Ruby, Git, Heroku and a bunch of other stuff. Books like David Black's “The Well Grounded Rubyist” and the Pickaxe 3 will provide people with much better learning tools for a modern Ruby than what we've had over the last couple years. The 1.9 API docs are also helpful. Developers discovering this elegant, dynamic language quickly learn that Ruby is a powerful alternative to traditional static languages like Java or C++. The framework is incredibly well thought-out and handles a great deal of the grunt work for me. Manning: The Well-Grounded Rubyist. The begin..end pair are not needed in a method definition. I worked through it plus all the exercises and felt like a I had a grounding in most of the fundamentals. The Well-Grounded Rubyist is a thoroughly revised and updated edition of the best-selling Ruby for Rails. In this new book, expert author David A. If you're looking a great Ruby book, the best one I've found is The Well-Grounded Rubyist by David Black. I've babbled on enough about this, but let me end by saying that I fully expect that the inclusion of Clojure into the Well-Grounded Rubyist's 6 arsenal will work to strengthen said Rubyist's skills and indeed the language itself.
